What is QuadSmash?

QuadSmash is a frantic couch-multiplayer arcade game available on Xbox Live Indie Games and PC, featuring crazy-fast vehicles. Check out the trailer:

Who are we?

QuadSmash is built by some folks at Creative Patterns. We're a small studio going indie. We're based in Strasbourg, France.

Not only are we planning to release QuadSmash Online later this month, it will also feature fully reworked in-game art. Here’s a sneak peek! (first image is the current look, the 3 others are new). Doesn’t it look gorgeous? :)

Introducing… QuadSmash LAN Preview!

Last week we released QuadSmash 1.2.0 with 5 new arenas and lots of improvements across the board. Today, we’re proud to announce the availability of QuadSmash LAN Preview for PC.

What is it?

The LAN Preview allows playing QuadSmash over a local network, with multiple computers. It’s a preliminary version intended for testing. We’d like you to try it out and send us all the feedback you have. We’ve completely rewritten the game engine, as well as the user interface to better accomodate network game setup and provide an awesome PC experience (with mouse support, yay!)

Things to know:

  • This version features no singleplayer campaign.
  • Internet play is planned but not (yet) available. We need more time to iron out all the kinks.
  • Menu graphics are temporary, they haven’t been reworked by our artists yet.
  • For now only one player per computer can join a networked game. We’ll add support for more local players in a later build.
  • This version is only available for PC. Once we’re sure we’ve got it right, we’ll port the networking code over to Xbox.

The build is available to everyone who purchased the full game (it’s still time!) over at the Download page and remember to tell us what you think! It’ll be made available through Desura very soon too!

QuadSmash 1.2: 5 new Smashball arenas, lots of bugfixes

We just released a new version of QuadSmash featuring 5 new Smashball arenas. Here’s the list of the changes we made:

  • 5 new smashball arenas with chainsaws, lava, multiple goals and more!
  • Fix bug that made challenge texts appear in English in French version
  • Improved framerate consistency on Windows
  • Make platforms fall slower so you can jump of them more reliably
  • Allow changing language in-game
  • Add quick control recap in pause menu
  • List all supported screen modes instead of using a hard-coded list
  • Allow controlling player to force quit hall of fame with Start
  • Fix “black screen on startup” issue when graphics device has been reset
  • Make the keyboard its own controller so people can play with 1 gamepad + 1 keyboard
  • Remove initial black frames in intro video
  • Improve feedback in spot mode, make spots more visible
  • Fix some typos

Note: The Desura and XBLIG version are in review and should be made available in the coming days.

If you’re wondering why all of this has taken so long, it’s because we’ve been at work on the LAN / online version of QuadSmash. We’re not done yet, but we’ll be releasing a preview version very soon! Stay tuned!
